Obituary for Robert Snyder

Robert Allen Snyder, son of the late Charles A. Snyder and Catherine (Simousek) Snyder, younger brother to the late Kenneth C. Snyder, loving husband to Loretta (Boehm) Caputo and the late Audeen G. (North) Snyder, beloved father to Lynn A. Lureau (Jim), Lori J. Shuman (Jeff), and Lisa G. Lenning (Tim), beloved grandfather to Ryan Lureau, Matthew (Samantha) Lureau, Ben Shuman, Kyle Shuman, Jessie Lenning, Joshua Lenning, Zahabu Lenning, Zeiba Lenning, Sisay Lenning, and Caleb Lenning, uncle to several nieces and nephews, went to his eternal home with his Savior Jesus on December 27, 2017, at the age of 81.

Robert (Bob) was born and raised in Chicago, IL, where he developed his love of baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs. He shared fond memories of playing baseball in the back alleys of Chicago and afterwards guzzling ice-cold Pepsi in a bottle. He walked several blocks to McKay Elementary school on the south side for grades K-8, and then graduated from Luther Institute (high school) in 1953. He was a pitcher on the baseball team at Luther Institute, and during high school worked as an Andy Frain Usher at Cubs games, White Sox games, various ice shows, boxing matches, and even the 1952 Republican National Convention in Chicago!

Faith - Bob and his older brother Ken attended Hope Lutheran Church in their youth and he was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 10, 1949, which was also his 13th birthday. He continued in his faith in his adult years at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Berwyn, Trinity Lutheran in Lisle, and for his remaining years at Peace Lutheran Church in Lombard (see below).

Education - Bob received a B.S. in Business Administration from Northwestern University (1957), his CPA from the University of Illinois and later his MBA from the University of Chicago (1978).

Military - Bob joined the Army National Guard in 1959, served 6 months of active duty, received Sharpshooters and Marksman Badges and Rifle and Mortar Bar, and was Honorably Discharged in April of 1961.

Jobs - After graduating from Northwestern Univ., Bob was employed as an auditor for Arthur Anderson, then Chicago Fittings Corp., and in 1965 started with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois as manager of Medicare reimbursement auditing. He later worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield Association on the national level as Director of Reimbursement, and officially retired at age 59 in 1995.

Marriage and Family - While at Northwestern University, Bob went on a blind date with Audeen North, who was a nursing student at Rush Presbyterian. They fell in love and were married at Hope Lutheran Church on June 14, 1958, and were married for 38 years until Audeen’s death in 1996.

Bob and Audeen moved to Lombard, IL in the 1960’s and were founding members of Peace Lutheran Church, which started meeting in homes in the Butterfield subdivision in 1969 with Pastor David Walker, and was officially founded in 1972. They were active church members, where Bob was chairman of the congregation several times through the years and was also involved with PADS, mission trips to Honduras, and Joni and Friends ministry to the disabled.
Bob and Audeen raised their family in Lombard – on Drury Lane in the Butterfield subdivision – and lived there until Audeen’s death in 1996.

Many years later, Bob met Loretta Caputo while volunteering at Love, Inc. and they married on March 27,2010, at Peace Lutheran Church where they continued to be active members.
Bob will be most remembered as a loving and faithful husband, father, father-in-law, and beloved grandpa. He was very active in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and he passes on a strong legacy of faith in God, love and commitment to family, and service to others. We celebrate his life and rejoice in his reunion with family and friends in heaven!
